Born from the legendary Cessna L-19/O-1 Bird Dog, made famous during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, the Noyes Super Bird Dog II represents an exciting evolution of one of America's most beloved military observation aircraft! Originally developed for military reconnaissance, artillery spotting, and Forward Air Control (FAC) missions, the Bird Dog became legendary for its rugged construction, outstanding visibility, and remarkable short-field capabilities. Its ability to operate from primitive airstrips made it invaluable to military pilots and later a favorite among civilian and backcountry aviators.

FROM THE ORIGINAL BIRD DOG TO THE SUPER DOG II!

Determined to keep these historic aircraft flying for generations to come, Noyes Enterprises of Maine developed the Super Dog program to modernize the aging Cessna L-19. The first evolution, the SUPER DOG I, replaced the original Continental O-470 engine with a more powerful Lycoming O-540 engine and THREE-BLADE HARTZELL CONSTANT-SPEED PROPELLER, improving performance while reducing empty weight and increasing allowable gross weight. Noyes didn't stop there!  The SUPER DOG II took the transformation even further by replacing the classic Bird Dog's familiar rounded vertical tail with a distinctive TALL, SQUARED-OFF, HIGH-ASPECT-RATIO TAIL!

Interestingly, this wasn't an entirely new idea! Back in 1956, Cessna developed the Model 321/OE-2 Bird Dog II, an improved military observation aircraft featuring a redesigned tail. Only 27 of these rare aircraft were produced, making them an interesting and often overlooked chapter in Bird Dog history.

Noyes revived this concept, combining the distinctive squared-tail design with the modernized Super Dog powerplant to create an aircraft that retains the original Bird Dog's legendary character while offering improved performance. The full-scale Super Dog II is advertised with cruising speeds exceeding 140 MPH and landing speeds as low as 38 MPH!
